It could be a better morning, GMA.

Now that the holiday season is kicking into high gear all of the morning shows have been hitting the kitchen to share awesome tips from celebrity chefs and tablescapes that no one will ever recreate.  And we love it all!  Modwalls people are food people: make no mistake, we love to see some action in the kitchen.

But we’re also design people, and while watching Good Morning America today I found myself gaping, mouth open… but unfortunately, I wasn’t looking at the Thanksgiving goodies Emeril Lagasse was preparing, but instead at the rinky-dink set, pitiful paint and seemingly thoughtless color scheme.

What’s going on, GMA? Are we the only ones that think this kitchen is having an identity crisis?  The muted green paint is really best for a bedroom or bathroom, and those primary yellow countertops just don’t belong.   And the checkerboard floors?  The look is a classic and we love it when it’s done right.  But with the rest of the room… not so much.

They did a good thing when they covered the vibrant yellow countertops for this spread.

It’s not that all parts of the GMA kitchen are so bad… they seem to have been on the right track by choosing green for the walls.  Green is super popular on TV kitchens. Take Giada’s kitchen for example. Instead of gaudy green paint she has a tile backsplash in a pale, watery green color that is much more up-to-date.  Plus tile is so much more chic and practical for the kitchen… hint, hint, GMA.

One of Rachel Ray’s old kitchens had dark green mosaic tile like our Brio 3/4″ glass mosaic tile and this is a rocking option that is overlooked far too often.  This is the perfect tile to go with that checkerboard floor!

It’s really a shame to see such a hodge-podge looking kitchen when there are so many amazing materials and color combinations out there for set designers to take advantage of.  And if you are reading this, GMA, please let us send you a modwalls catalogue!
